Nita Skillman receives Emerging Leader Award
Nita Skillman,Client and Simulated Patient Coordinator for the School of Health Sciences
In 2001, the Association of Standardized Patients(ASPE) was formed. It is an international organization with more than 3000 members(most are SPEs or SP experts) from over more than 30 nations around the world. CSPC has been organizing domestic SP experts and SP trainers to join ASPE since 2016. It has attended ASPE Annual Conference since then, to carry out scholar exchange with colleagues from simulation community, therefore stimulate professional development in China.
In recognition of outstanding talents within ASPE, two members will be honored ASPE Outstanding Educator award and ASPE Emerging Leader Award. CSPC nominated two experts from PUMCH this year, for their contributes to the application of SP methodology in China.
The award is decided upon by a committee of former recipients who are selected by the president of ASPE. Nita Skillman was honored with the Emerging Leader Award.
加入ASPE 5年来，Nita一直积极参与协会活动，包括服务于会员委员会和教育资源委员会。她在2014,2015和2017年的ASPE年会上，也都有精彩的演讲。Nita于2012年8月加入埃隆健康医学院，成为医师助理研究部和理疗教育部的标准化病人项目协调员。作为协调员，她以客户和标准化病人委员会主席的身份，致力于促成阿拉曼斯郡社区与埃隆的沟通。 Nita一心只想让每个项目的学生，都能在安全可控的环境中进行逼真的医学模拟实践操作，以帮助他们更好地适应真实的临床环境。
Skillman has been an active member of ASPE for the past five years, including roles on both the Membership and Educational Resources Committees and presentations at the annual conferences in 2014, 2015 and 2017.Nita joined the Elon’s School of Health Sciences staff in August 2012 as the Client and Standardized Patient Coordinator for both the Physician Assistant Studies and Physical Therapy Education Departments. In her role as program coordinator, she serves as chair of the Client and Standardized Patient Committee, and aspires to bridge the Alamance County community with Elon’s School of Health Sciences programs. Nita wants nothing more than for students of the each program to have realistic simulated medical experiences in a safe and controlled environment that will better prepare them for their clinical rotations.
Skillman was thrilled to win this award, stating, “Elon will now be widely known within the simulation community and I’m honored to be part of the wonderful team that made that happen.”
